The Northwest Garlic Festival was conceived in 1981 by Nanci Main and Jimella Lucas, formerly of The Ark Restaurant, to further enhance the wonderful essence of the “Stinking Rose” (aka Garlic). Due to the tremendous interest and growth in the Festival, The Ark turned the responsibility of this event over to the Ocean Park Area Chamber of Commerce (OPACC) in 1989. The OPACC has kept the bulb reeking and this year will be the twenty-seventh anniversary of the Northwest Garlic Festival.
